Match Recap: No. 1 Women's Tennis |

#11 Women's Tennis Defeats #21 Southeastern 8-1

The #11 ranked Seahawks women's tennis team defeated #21 Southeastern University on Saturday afternoon in Lakeland.  Keiser improved to 7-6 overall on the year and 2-0 in Sun Conference play.

Keiser started off strong in doubles as Juliana Goncalves made her Seahawks debut paired at #2 with Ana Pinto and they cruised to an 8–3 win. Shortly after, the #3 pair of Laura Ortega and Livia Toth won 8-2 pushing the advantage to 2-0.

Southeastern got on the board when they took #1 doubles over Teodora Stanciu and Lola Garcia 8-6 but trailed Keiser 2-1 heading into singles play.

Once singles play started, the Seahawks seized control as Stanciu wasted no time winning at #5 6-0, 6-0 upping the lead to 3-1. Samantha Guy despite dropping the first three games of her match, rallied and won 12 straight to prevail 6-2, 6-2 making it 4-1.

Toth at #6 clinched the match on the day for the Seahawks with her 6-2, 6-2 victory and then Pinto was victorious at #3 6-1, 6-2 for a 6-1 advantage.  Goncalves at #3 routinely took out her opponent 6–3, 6–3 to make her debut a complete success and stretch the lead to 7–1.

Ortega needed a third set tiebreak but she would ultimately prevail 6-3, 6-7(4), 1-0 (8) and put the finishing touches on the 8–1 win.

Head Coach Daniel Finn said, "I really have to give credit to the ladies today. For the most part we did a great job of coming out focused and taking care of the business that was in front of us. We took a hard loss to Xavier back on Wednesday and we knew that we had to put it behind us. Adding Juliana to the lineup was certainly a spark for the ladies today and it showed with their performances.  We've got a couple more big matches coming up this week that we know we have to be ready for."
