The #11 Keiser University baseball team dropped a pair to #3 Georgia Gwinnett in a doubleheader on Friday afternoon. The Seahawks fell to 24-8 overall on the year with the pair of defeats.
Game 1: Georgia Gwinnett comes from behind to defeat Keiser 9-8.
- Keiser loaded the bases in the second when an RBI fielder's choice to short by Brad Myott put the Seahawks in front 1-0.
- Keivan Berges led off the fifth with a double to right center and scored on an RBI groundout to short by Jack Curtis pushing the lead to 2-0. A Tyler Goff double down the left field line made it 3-0, but Georgia Gwinnett got on the board in the bottom half with a run making it 3-1.
- With two outs in the sixth, Dylan Dore singled to center, Berges walked and Myott drove a three run homerun over the right field fence for a 6-1 advantage.
- The Grizzles plated two in the seventh and three in the eighth tying the game at 6-6. However, the Seahawks regained the lead in the ninth with two runs.
- Goff singled with one out and pinch runner Andrew Danner moved to third on a Miguel Casanueva double down the left field line. Pinch hitter Luis Roman then singled to right pushing two runs across, retaking an 8-6 advantage. However, Georgia Gwinnett scored three runs in the bottom half to come from behind for the 9-8 victory.
- Dore led the way with a game high three hits, while Myott and Goff had two apiece.
- Berges suffered the loss going 1.2 innings with three strikeouts. Steven Bruce started and went five innings with eight strikeouts.
Game 2: The Grizzles defeated the Seahawks 12-3.
- Georgia Gwinnett scored two runs in the first, three in the second, and one in the fourth for a 6-0 lead before Keiser got on the board in the fifth.
- Dore singled to center with two outs and came around to score on a Berges double to left making it 6-1. However, the Grizzles got the run back in the bottom half and tacked on two more in the sixth pushing out to a 9-1 advantage.
- An RBI groundout by Myott pushed Dore across who led off with a walk getting to within 9-2 in the seventh. GGC responded with a run of their own in the bottom half and added two in the eighth stretching the lead to 12-2.
- Roman led off the ninth with a walk and scored on a Casey Mullennix double to left center making it 12-3.
- Berges and Casanueva had two hits apiece. Weston Wuthrich started and went five innings with four strikeouts.
These same two teams meet tomorrow afternoon in a doubleheader at 1:00 and 4:00 to conclude the series.Â
