Match Recap: No. 1 Women's Tennis |

#9 Women's Tennis Takes Down #24 Marian 8-1

The #9 Keiser University women's tennis team took out #24 Marian University 8-1 on Friday afternoon in Orlando. This match marked the third one on the day for the Seahawks with them finishing 2-1.

Samantha Guy and Livia Toth rolled to an 8-3 win at the third spot, putting the Seahawks on the board 1–0, and quickly afterwards Laura Ortega and Anna Pinto won at #2 going away 8–0. The excitement of the day came from Teodora Stanciu and Lola Garcia as they trailed 5-2, but rallied back to win the match in a tiebreaker 9–8(3), securing a sweep of doubles and hold a 3-0 lead.

Garcia quickly got the Seahawks on the board in singles with a 6–1, 6–0 win at #5 to push the lead to 4–0. Next Toth tallied a 6–2, 6–1 win at #6 and clinched the match for the ladies as they led 5–0. At that point Guy would fall 6-1, 6-2 at #3 and give Marian their first point of the day.

The Seahawks regrouped and won at #2 singles with a come from behind win in the second set down 2–5 before winning 6–1, 7–5.

In the last two matches of the day, both went to super tiebreakers as the match was already decided yet both would still be extremely long marathon matches.  #4 Stanciu won her match 6–3, 5–7, 1–0(4) to push the lead out to 7-1. In the last match of the day, Ortega came from behind to win number one singles 6-7(4), 6-2, 1-0(6) and finish off the 8-1 win for the ladies.

"I'm definitely proud of the ladies in the way they competed today," said head coach Daniel Finn. "Asking anybody to play three matches in one day is not an easy task no matter who you play. The ladies did a great job of responding tonight and coming together as a team and probably playing some of the best tennis they played all year.  If the girls can continue to build upon this momentum and get the ball rolling we will be a dangerous team to play soon enough."
