#15 Baseball Splits With Florida Memorial

The #15 Keiser University baseball team split a doubleheader against Florida Memorial on Saturday afternoon. The Seahawks moved to 21-6 overall and 6-3 in Sun Conference play.

Game 1:  Keiser fell to Florida Memorial 6-3.
  • Miguel Casanueva tripled to left in the third and scored on a Jesus Fuenmayor RBI single to short for a 1-0 lead. The Seahawks extended their advantage in the sixth with a pair of runs.
  • Gabby Mundo walked and Dylan Dore singled to third to begin the inning. Mundo then stole third and Dore advanced to second on the throw. A Brad Myott double to left brought both runners in upping the advantage to 3-0.
  • Florida Memorial plated six runs in the sixth and went on to win 6-3.
  • Six different Seahawk players recorded at least one hit.
  • Kyle Keatts suffered the loss despite striking out seven.

Game 2: The Seahawks defeated the Lions 9-1.
  • Keiser jumped out to a quick 3-0 advantage in the first inning. Mundo walked and advanced to third on a Dore single to left field. Keivan Berges plated Mundo on an RBI single to short making it 1-0. A Carlos Lopez sacrifice fly to center upped it to 2-0 and a Casanueva double to right center made it 3-0.
  • The Lions got a run back in the second getting to within 3-1 but Keiser answered with a run of their own in the fifth on a throwing error by the pitcher making it 4-1.
  • In the seventh, Mundo walked and scored on a Dore double to left center extending the advantage to 5-1 and an RBI single by Myott pushed it to 6-1.
  • Berges doubled to left center bringing in a pair of runs upping the lead to 8-1 and an RBI double to left center by Lopez capped the scoring at 9-1.
  • Berges had three hits helping the Seahawks outhit Florida Memorial 14-6.
  • Weston Wuthrich picked up the win going seven innings with five strikeouts. Cort Miller threw two perfect innings in relief.
