The #3 seed Keiser University men's basketball team took down the defending national champion and #2 seed, Cornerstone 93-79 in the second round of the NAIA National Tournament. The Seahawks improved to 30-4 overall with the victory.
How it Happened - Cornerstone led 9-8 when a pair of Stanley Whittaker free throws sparked a 9-0 run retaking a 17-9 lead with 14:39 left in the first half.
- The Golden Eagles closed to within 22-15 but a Brice Jenkins three pointer started a 9-0 spurt that turned into a 12-1 stretch taking their largest advantage of the half of 34-16 with 11:23 to play.
- Cornerstone got as close as 42-35 but the Seahawks ended the half on an 11-4 run to lead 53-39 at the half.
- The Seahawks connected on nine three pointers and went a perfect 10 of 10 from the free throw line.
- Keiser led 57-46 at the 15:58 mark of the second half which was the closest the game would get before a Tyrus Weaver basket started a 6-0 run upping the advantage to 63-46.
- The game would stay at a 12 point margin down the stretch while the Seahawks converted clutch free throws to ice the 93-79 victory.
Inside the Box3: Jenkins had a game high three steals.
