#15 Baseball Uses the Long Ball to Defeat SEU 12-5

The #15 Keiser University baseball team used five home runs to defeat #RV Southeastern 12-5 on Friday afternoon in game one of a three game set. The Seahawks moved to 9-5 overall and 2-2 in Sun Conference play.
  • Southeastern struck quickly with two runs in the first for a 2-0 advantage.
  • In the second, Carlos Lopez singled and moved to third on a double to right center by Jack Curtis. A sacrifice fly to center by Casey Mullennix cut the deficit to 2-1.
  • Keivan Berges tied the game at 2-2 in the third on a solo homer to centerfield. After a Brad Myott walk, Tyler Goff hit a two run bomb to center to take a 4-2 lead.
  • The Fire plated a run in the fourth getting to within 4-3 but the Seahawks responded with three in the bottom half.
  • Miguel Casanueva led off with a walk and Dore followed with a single through the left side. Berges then cleared them with his second homer to left center making it 7-3.
  • Southeastern pushed two guys across in the fifth getting to within 7-5, but a two out RBI single by Casanueva in the bottom half made it 8-5.
  • Two run homers by Mullennix in the seventh and Myott in the eighth lifted Keiser to the 12-5 victory.
  • Six different Keiser players' recorded two hits, helping them outhit SEU 15-7.
  • Berges had four runs batted in and Mullennix had three.
  • Steven Bruce (3-0) went six innings, striking out five. Damian Boyum picked up his second save of the year going the final three innings and only giving up one hit.
