#15 Baseball Defeats Ave Maria 11-8

The #15 Keiser University baseball team defeated Ave Maria 11-8 in a non-conference game on Wednesday afternoon. The Seahawks improved to 8-5 overall on the year.
  • The Gyrenes connected on a two run homer in the first and the third taking a 4-0 lead before the Seahawks pushed four runs across in the fourth to tie game.
  • Brad Myott led off with a single to short and pinch runner Tyler Hitt moved to third on a Tyler Goff single. RBI singles by Carlos Lopez, Jack Curtis, and Miguel Casanueva cut the deficit to 4-3. After the second out was recorded, Dylan Dore doubled down the left field line tying it at 4-4.
  • With two outs in the sixth, Dore singled to right field plating Brandon Crawford who led off the inning with a walk, gaining a 5-4 advantage. Keivan Berges then singled through the left side upping the lead to 6-4.
  • The first two batters were retired in the seventh, when Crawford walked and stole second and Curtis homered to left field pushing the lead to 8-4. Casanueva followed with a solo homer to left making it 9-4.
  • RBI singles in the eighth by Goff and Lopez upped the advantage to 11-4. Ave Maria pushed four runs across in the ninth getting to within 11-8 and had the tying run at the plate but Weston Wuthrich came in to pick up his first save of the year.
  • Dore and Goff led the way with three hits apiece, and Curtis had three runs batted in.
  • Cort Miller picked up the win throwing three scoreless innings of relief work and striking out two.

The Seahawks return to Sun Conference play this weekend at home in a three game set against Southeastern. Friday is a single game scheduled for 2:00 and Saturday is a doubleheader at 11:00 and 2:00.
