#15 Baseball Splits TSC Opener Against USCB

The #15 Keiser University baseball team split their Sun Conference opening doubleheader at South Carolina Beaufort on Friday afternoon. The Seahawks moved to 7-4 overall and 1-1 in TSC play.


Game 1: The Sand Sharks defeated the Seahawks 4-2.
  • Casey Mullennix got Keiser on the board in the second with a two out RBI single to right field making it 1-0.
  • South Carolina Beaufort scored a run in the fourth and the fifth to take a 2-1 advantage.
  • In the seventh with two outs, Mullennix doubled to left center and scored on a Miguel Casanueva single through the left side tying the game at 2-2.
  • The Sand Sharks regained a 4-2 advantage in the seventh off reliever Weston Wuthrich and went on to win by that same score.
  • Mullennix and Casanueva both had two hits apiece.
  • Steven Bruce started and went six innings, striking out three batters.

Game 2: Keiser defeated South Carolina Beaufort 5-4.
  • Brad Myott scored the game's first run in the second inning on a solo homer to right center making it 1-0. A throwing error by the catcher in the fourth extended the Seahawks lead to 2-0.
  • South Carolina Beaufort got a run back in the fourth on a double down the left field line making it 2-1.
  • Myott hit a two run homer to right field in the sixth for his second of the game pushing the advantage to 4-1. A Sand Sharks two out double in the seventh cut the deficit to 4-2, but Daniel Arroyo answered with a two out double down the left field line in the eighth making it 5-2.
  • The Sand Sharks platted two runs in the ninth on a homerun getting to within 5-4 but Damian Boyum came in to retire the last two batters picking up his first save of the year.
  • Kyle Keatts moved to 2-0 after going seven innings with five strikeouts.
  • Myott led the way with two hits and three runs batted in.
