Match Recap: No. 1 Women's Tennis |

#8 Women's Tennis Drop Close One to Middle Georgia 5-4

The #8 women's tennis team fell to RV Middle Georgia State University 5-4 on Monday evening.

The Seahawks started from behind after the Knights took two of the three double matches. The #13 doubles team of Teodora Stanciu and Lola Garcia won their match 8-2.  Samantha Guy and Caroline Bostrom fell at #2 8-5, while Laura Ortega and Livia Toth lost their match at #3 8-6.

Keiser battled back though in singles as Stanciu knotted the match at 2-2 with her 6-0, 6-2 win at #3. Guy then made her presence felt as she grabbed a 6-1, 6-1 victory in the #2 spot, giving the Seahawks a 3-2 lead.

Middle Georgia struck back with a win at #1 singles over Ortega 6-4, 6-4 tying it at 3-3. Bostrom fell in the #6 slot 6-0, 6-0, regiving the Knights the 4-3 advantage. The match only stayed that way for a few second as Toth prevailed at #5 6-4, 6-0 knotting it at 4-4 and the deciding match came down to Garcia at #4 singles.

Early on things looked good as Garcia took the opening set in a tiebreaker, but Middle Georgia battled back to take the set 6-4, sending the match to a deciding third set. The Knights jumped out to a 5-0 lead but Garcia wouldn't go away quietly as she battled back all the way to 5-3, before falling 6-3.

"These kind of matches always sting to lose," said head coach Daniel Finn. "Our girls did a good job of fighting all the way to the end. We were shorthanded coming in and then fell behind early so we were fighting uphill all day. At the end of the day we just have to learn from this and keep pushing forward to improve."

The women return to the court tomorrow at 5:00 against Union.
