#15 Baseball Splits Home Opener Against #13 AUM

The #15 Keiser University baseball team split their home opener against #13 Auburn University Montgomery on Friday afternoon. The Seahawks moved to 4-3 overall on the year.

Game 1: Keiser University took down Auburn Montgomery 9-5.
  • Gabby Mundo singled through the left side to begin the game and scored on an error by the center fielder taking a 1-0 lead.
  • The Warhawks answered in the second with two runs for a 2-1 advantage.
  • Luis Roman led off the fourth with a walk and moved to third on a Casey Mullennix double down the left field line. A sacrifice fly to right by Brandon Crawford platted Roman tying it at 2-2.
  • Back to back RBI singles with two outs by Mundo and Keivan Berges, put the Seahawks back ahead 4-2.
  • In the sixth, with one out, a sacrifice fly to center by Mundo upped the advantage to 5-2. Berges and Carlos Lopez both hit two run homers to left center extending the lead to 9-2.
  • Auburn Montgomery hit a three run homer to left field with no outs in the seventh but got no closer falling 9-5.
  • Steven Bruce moved to 2-0 on the year. He struck out five over six innings while allowing no walks.
  • Mundo, Jack Curtis, and Berges all had two hits apiece.
Game 2: Auburn Montgomery defeated Keiser 5-1.
  • The Seahawks got on the board in the first on a sacrifice fly to center by Roman making it 1-0. Auburn Montgomery responded with a run in the second knotting it at 1-1.
  • Both teams went scoreless over the next five innings forcing the game into extra innings. The Warhawks then pushed four runs across in the ninth winning 5-1.
  • Brad Myott led the way with two of the four Keiser hits.
  • Kyle Keatts threw eight strong innings, striking out seven and only allowing one run.
Up Next
The Seahawks welcome Bryan College tomorrow for a doubleheader at 11:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. The first game will be nine innings while game two is set for seven.
