No. 3 Women's Soccer Advances to Sun Conference Championship

No. 3 nationally ranked and top-seeded Keiser women's soccer claimed the 3-1 victory over fifth seeded USCB on Tuesday afternoon in the Sun Conference Semifinals. The Seahawks were led by Filippa Millqvist with two goals and one assist in the semifinal victory.
 
Turning Point
The poise and play from Filippa Millqvist was the difference maker in today's contest. The Swedish native assisted on the game's first goal, recording her 12th assist of the season. Later with the score knotted at 1-1, Millqvist netted two goals of her own to give the Seahawks a 3-1 cushion over the Sand Sharks at halftime.
 
How it Happened
  • Keiser took a 3-1 lead at the half after two goals by Filippa Millqvist and one by Sara Lundberg.
  • The Seahawks outshot USCB 12-5 in the opening half, including 7-1 in shots on goal.
  • Lundberg scored her fourth goal of the season in the 13th minute of play off the cross from Millqvist, her 12th assist of the year.
  • The Sand Sharks evened the contest at one apiece in the 27th minute when Brooke Newman netted the equalizer assisted by Anna Gignilliat.
  • Millqvist placed the Seahawks back on top no more than two minutes later after scoring her sixth goal of the season.
  • The freshman midfielder then notched her second goal of the game and seventh of the year to place Keiser ahead 3-1 before the half, assisted by Ebba Blomqvist.
  • The two squads drew a 0-0 tie in the second half as the score would remain 3-1 in favor of the Seahawks.
 
Game Notes
  • With the win, Keiser will play for its third consecutive Sun Conference Tournament title, winning the previous two.
  • Millqvist recorded her second multi-goal game of the season, with her first being a hat trick against Georgia Gwinnett on Sept. 18.
  • Millqvist moved into fourth place in program history for assists in a single season with 12.
  • Keiser notched its 17th win of the season which matches the most in program history that was set in 2008, 2013 and 2014.
