No. 3 nationally ranked and top-seeded Keiser women's soccer claimed the victory over second-seeded and No. 21 ranked Southeastern by the final of 2-2, winning in penalty kicks by the tally of 4-2.
 
Turning Point
The turning point in today's contest came in the 78th minute when Konya Plummer netted the equalizing goal that sent the game into overtime and potentially penalty kicks. Plummer's goal was assisted by Shayna Cole, evening the contest at 2-2.
 
How it Happened
  • Southeastern took the 1-0 lead heading into the locker room at the half following the goal by Bania Duran in the 38th minute.
  • Keiser nearly broke though first in the 12th minute of play when Johanna Engberg ripped a shot from outside the 18-yard box that was turned away by Southeastern keeper, Sydni Brookhouser.
  • Southeastern nearly broke the 0-0 tie in the 22nd minute with a two-on-one breakaway that was turned aside by Elsa Netz.
  • The Fire struck first in the 38th minute of the first half when Bania Duran netted a free-kick goal from 20 yards out.
  • The Seahawks had two chances to even the contest before the half as Renee Brown and Ebba Blomqvist had shots turned away in the closing seven minutes of the first frame.
  • Sara Lundberg evened the score for the Seahawks in the 50th minute when the senior midfielder notched her fifth goal of the season, assisted by Filippa Millqvist.
  • The Seahawks then took the lead in the 56th minute when Ebba Blomqvist laced a free-kick from 25 yards out.
  • Southeastern tied the contest at 2-2 in the 78th minute when Konya Plummer netted the goal, assisted by Shayna Cole.
  • The two squads extended the game into overtime, remaining scoreless in the first overtime to stretch the game into the second extra period.
  • Engberg nearly ended the game in the second overtime when the senior forward launched a shot in the 101st minute that resulted in a diving save from Brookhouser.
  • Molly Lukk had the chance to end the game at the end of the second overtime when her potential game-winner sailed just wide, sending the game into penalty kicks.
 
Penalty Kick Moment by Moment
  • Ebba Blomqvist began the PKs on the positive side for Keiser, scoring to take the 1-0 advantage.
  • Heidi Ruth of Southeastern tied the penalty kicks at one after notching her strike from 12 yards out.
  • The two squads had their next two shots saved after Lukk of Keiser and Nicole Shaffer of Southeastern had their shots turned away.
  • Keiser took the 2-1 advantage on penalties when Olivia White stepped up and drilled the go-ahead goal.
  • Melanie Peyton of Southeastern had her shot turned away as Elsa Netz notched consecutive saves for Keiser to keep the 2-1 advantage in favor of the Seahawks.
  • Renee Brown provided the cushion for Keiser, burying her penalty kick to give the Seahawks a 3-1 lead.
  • Rebecca Reynolds pulled the Fire to within one after notching her penalty kick goal.
  • Engberg sealed the game for the Seahawks, stepping up to notch the game-winner as Keiser claimed the 4-2 penalty kick victory.
 
Game Notes
  • With the win, Keiser claimed its fourth Sun Conference Tournament in program history, including their third consecutive.
  • The Seahawks competed in their first penalty kick finale since Dec. 6, 2013 when Keiser fell to Westmont in the 2013 NAIA Final Four.
