Women's Soccer Blanks Concordia (Neb) to Advance to the NAIA Second Round

No. 3 Keiser started off the 2016 NAIA National Tournament on a strong note, defeating Concordia (Neb) by the final score of 2-0 in the opening round. Johanna Engberg netted both goals for the Seahawks.
 
Turning Point
The turning point in today's contest came in the 57th minute of play when the Seahawks broke through for their first goal of the contest. Matilda Nilsson found Johanna Engberg with a defender draped on her back. Engberg turned around the defender and fired a shot into the far left corner to provide Keiser with a 1-0 lead that they would not relinquish.
 
How it Happened
  • Keiser and Concordia (Neb) played to a 0-0 tie in the first half of play, despite the Seahawks outshooting the Bulldogs 10-3.
  • Keiser saw three scoring chances slip by as Filippa Millqvist, Sara Lundberg and Matilda Nilsson ripped shots that narrowly missed.
  • The Bulldogs nearly took a 1-0 lead to end the half when Jeannelle Condame laced a free kick off the crossbar.
  • Keiser jumped on the scoreboard in the 57th minute of play when Engberg netted her first of two goals.
  • The Seahawks scored three minutes later when Engberg found the back of the net for the second time, assisted by Sara Lundberg and Filippa Millqvist.
  • Elsa Netz pitched yet another shutout for the Seahawks, recorded one save in the victory.
 
Game Notes
  • With the win, Keiser advances to the second round of the 2016 NAIA National Tournament where they will play the winner of Reinhardt and MidAmerica Nazarene in Orange Beach, Ala., on Nov. 29 at 7:30 pm EST.
  • With the win, Keiser picks up its 18th win of the season, the most in a single season in program history.
