No. 2 Women's Soccer Claims Regular Season Conference Title with 2-1 Victory

No. 2 Keiser women's soccer claimed its 12th regular season conference title and 11th in a row after defeating Johnson & Wales by the final score of 2-1 in the regular season finale. Both of the Keiser goals came off the foot of Johanna Engberg assisted by Sara Lundberg. Today's contest also served as Senior Day for the Keiser Women's Soccer team.
 
Turning Point
The turning point in today's contest came in the 97th minute of play when Engberg found the back of the net for her 14th goal of the season and second of the game. Engberg's goal came off the assist by Filippa Millqvist. Millqvist found Engberg racing to the right side of the box and Engberg buried the game-winner into the far left side of the net.
 
How it Happened
  • The two squads drew to a 0-0 tie in the opening half, despite the Seahawks outshooting the Wildcats, 17-1.
  • Keiser then outshot Johnson & Wales by a total of 14-2 in the second half, leading to the Engberg goal.
  • The Wildcats scored the equalizer in the 86th minute when Samantha Klein found the back of the net.
  • Engberg nearly ended the game in the 95th minute when her header clanked off the left post.
  • The senior forward ended the game in the 97th minute of play when she ripped a shot into the far corner of the net, assisted by Filippa Millqvist.
 
Game Notes
  • Keiser claimed the 2016 regular season Sun Conference title after today's 2-1 overtime victory over Johnson & Wales.
  • The regular season title marked the 12th time that the Seahawks have won, including their 11th year in a row.
  • The Seahawks tallied a season-high 38 shots in today's victory over the Wildcats.
