How it Happened
Set One:
Keiser cruised to a 25-10 victory in the first set, never trailing the Wildcats at any point in the opening frame. Johnson & Wales hung in through the first seven points, trailing the Seahawks 4-3. However, Keiser notched seven unanswered points to take a commanding 11-3 lead. The Wildcats closed the gap to as close as six but the Seahawk offense was too hot to handle, taking its first double-digit lead at 17-6. Keiser would go on to outscore the Wildcats 8-4 over the final 12 points to solidify the first set victory.
Â
Set Two:
Johnson & Wales took the early 3-0 lead in the second set before Keiser tied the contest at 6-6 following two kills by
Samantha Thompson. The two teams battled neck-and-neck until Keiser stretched its lead to 13-10 midway through the set. Johnson & Wales eventually pulled to within one, 16-15, but could not overcome a late rally by the Seahawks in which Keiser scored nine of the last 10 points to claim the second set, 25-16.
Â
Set Three:
The third and final set began with an 8-3 lead in favor of the home squad. The Seahawks did not relinquish the lead, cruising to the 25-14 victory. The Wildcats trailed 9-5 at one point in the final frame, until
Lindsey Keegan served the Seahawks to seven consecutive points, including three service aces to take the 16-5 lead. Johnson & Wales trimmed the Keiser lead to seven but were unable to keep up with the high-powered offense.
