Volleyball Overshadows Suns on Tuesday Evening

Highlights
Keiser volleyball defeated Johnson by the final score of 3-0 on Tuesday evening on the road in Kissimmee, Fla. With the win, Keiser improves to 14-4 on the season and 6-4 on the road. Tuesday's sweep was the second time this season that Keiser swept the Suns, doing so in the Seahawks' home opener on August 25. Keiser finished the contest with a hitting percentage of .459, holding Johnson to .107. Megan Minke led the way in kills with seven, while Nicole Papineau led in assists (14) and Eshe Malone led in digs (6).
 
How it Happened
Set One:
Keiser dominated the first set, winning by the final score of 25-10. The Suns took an early 3-1 lead but could not hold on as Keiser jumped ahead 5-4, taking the lead for good. The Seahawks were the first to reach double-digit points, taking a 10-5 lead following a kill by Chantelle Zamora. Later in the set with Keiser ahead 14-8, the Seahawks rattled off eight unanswered to stretch the lead to 14, all but sealing the opening set. Johnson won the next two points before the Seahawks claimed the final three for the 15-point first set victory. Megan Minke led the way in the first set with five kills as Keiser recorded a .560 hitting percentage, compared to .188 for the Suns.
 
Set Two:
Keiser scored the first four points of the set behind the service of Miranda Jickell. The Suns cut the deficit to one but could not even the contest as the Seahawks scored eight of the next 11 points to take a 13-7 lead. With Keiser ahead 18-11, Johnson rattled off three unanswered points to trim the Seahawk lead to just four late in the second set. Keiser did not back down, scoring seven of the next 11 points to secure the 25-18 victory, inching closer to the three-set sweep.
 
Set Three:
Johnson began the third set on a 7-2 run to take its largest lead of the match. Keiser stormed back with four unanswered points to trim the Suns lead to just one. The two squads remained neck and neck with neither team able to stretch its lead to more than one until the Seahawks took a 15-13 advantage midway through the set. Johnson scored three of the next four points to even the contest at 16 apiece. The Seahawks then regained the lead after notching six unanswered points to take a 22-16 advantage. Keiser kept Johnson at bay, closing the door on the Suns following the 25-19 final-set victory.
