#9 Men's Basketball Holds Off Thomas 58-53

The #9 Keiser University men's basketball team bounced back from their defeat to Johnson & Wales by holding off Thomas University 58-53 on Saturday afternoon. The Seahawks improved to 21-3 overall and 9-2 in Sun Conference play.

How it Happened
  • Keiser jumped out to a 9-2 advantage before Thomas trimmed it to 9-7 with 16:12 remaining in the first half. A Deion McClenton dunk followed starting a 19-2 run which included a 15-0 stretch extending the lead to 28-9 at the 5:43 mark.
  • The Seahawks went into the half leading 30-15, while limiting the Night Hawks to just five field goals.
  • Thomas cut the deficit to 32-28, but a Stefan Zecevic free throw sparked a 9-2 run upping the lead to 41-30 with 13:14 left in regulation.
  • Over the next eight minutes, The Night Hawks outscored Keiser 19-8, tying the game at 49-49 with 5:01 remaining. An Andrija Sarenac jumper briefly gave the home team the lead back but again Thomas knotted it at 51-51 with 2:57 to go.
  • A Stanley Whittaker basket and two free throws by Brice Jenkins pushed the advantage to 55-51 with 43 seconds remaining.  
  • After a Thomas basket with 25 seconds left made it 55-53, the Seahawks hit clutch free throws to win 58-53.

3: McClenton scored a team high 16 points to lead players in double figures along with Whittaker (12), Jenkins (10).
6: McClenton finished with six blocks.
10: Zecevic finished the game with five offensive and five defensive rebounds.

Keiser honored members of the 1985 Villanova National Championship team who were led by head coach Rollie Massimino.
