The #3 Seahawks baseball team saw its 18 game winning streak end with a tough 11-10 loss to Thomas on Saturday afternoon. Casey Mullennix had two three run homers on the afternoon for Northwood.
A double to right center by Keivan Berges in the first put Northwood ahead 1-0, but Thomas tied it at 1-1 in the bottom half. The Night Hawks added a run in the second for a 2-1 lead, when a double to right field by Carlos Contreras knotted it at 2-2 in the third.
Thomas went back out in front in the third with three runs to lead 5-2. A passed ball in the fourth cut the Northwood deficit to 5-3, but the Night Hawks platted two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth making it 8-3. In the sixth the Seahawks made it a one run game with four runs.
A three run homer to left by Mullennix cut it to 8-6, and an RBI single by Contreras made it 8-7. However, Thomas pushed two runs across in the seventh and one in the eighth lifting their lead to 11-7.
The Seahawks attempted a ninth inning rally when Mullennix hit his second three run homer of the game to left center making it 11-10. Unfortunately, Northwood got no closer falling by that same score.
Contreras led the way with four hits, while Luis Roman had three. Patrick Barrington suffered the loss on the mound.
With the setback, the Seahawks fall to 37-8 overall and 21-3 in Conference play. Northwood hits the road on Tuesday traveling to NCAA Division 2 Eckerd for a 6:00 p.m. game.
