The Northwood baseball team took game one of a three game set against #11 Embry-Riddle on Friday afternoon by a final of 4-2. The Seahawks claimed first place in the Sun Conference with an 8-2 mark and 17-5 overall record.
Northwood jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the second inning. Casey Mullennix singled to left center and moved up a base on a Luis Roman single. A sacrifice by Ryan Palenzuela pushed the first run across making it 1-0. However, the Eagles took a 2-1 lead in the fourth but the Seahawks came back with two runs of their own in the fourth.
Roman tripled to right center and scored on a Brandon Crawford double to left field tying it at 2-2. Crawford ended up scoring on a passed ball regaining the 3-2 advantage. Keivan Berges tacked on the insurance run in fifth on an RBI single winning the game 4-2.
Cody Gray picked up the win going eight strong innings striking out seven batters while only walking one batter. Alan Carey picked up the save in the ninth inning. Roman led the way at the dish with three hits while Gabby Mundo had a pair.
These same two teams meet tomorrow in a doubleheader starting at 11:00 a.m.
