The #7 Seahawks baseball team swept Edward Waters on Sunday afternoon in two seven inning games. Northwood took game 2-1 and 11-6 in game two.
Gabby Mundo led the game off with a triple to left field and a Carlos Contreras triple to right field made it 1-0. A third triple by Luis Roman to right field pushed Tyler Hitt across making it 2-0. The Tigers cut it to 2-1 in the sixth but Andres Caraveo shut them out over the final 1.2 innings picking up his first save.
Steven Bruce moved to 7-0 on the year, going 5.1 innings striking out three. Roman and Mundo led the way with two hits apiece.
In game two, Northwood jumped out to a 5-0 lead after one inning. Andrew Danner doubled to left field making it 1-0 and an RBI fielder's choice by Keivan Berges extended it to 2-0. Ryan Palenzuela upped it to 3-0 on an RBI single through the right side and an RBI bunt by Casey Mullennix made it 4-0. Brandon Crawford singled to right field on the first pitch making it 5-0. The Seahawks then doubled their lead in the second inning.
Contreras doubled to left field scoring a run and an RBI single through the middle by Berges made it 8-0. Roman added on with a double to left field and Mullennix made it 10-0 on a single to right field. Edward Waters broke through with a run in the third making it 10-1, but a solo homer to right by Palenzuela in the fourth pushed it to 11-1.
The Tigers platted three runs in the fifth and two in the sixth getting to within 11-6. The Seahawks held on down the stretch winning by that 11-6 margin. Mundo, Danner, Roman, Palenzuela, and Mullennix all had two hits apiece. Berges picked up the win going 4.1 innings striking out six.
With the wins, Northwood improves to 31-7 overall on the year. The Seahawks return to the diamond on Friday afternoon when they welcome Florida Memorial for a three game series. The first pitch is set for 2:30 p.m.
