The #4 Northwood baseball team held off Florida Memorial 2-1 on Friday afternoon in game one of a three game set. The Seahawks extended their winning streak to 13 games and 23 of their last 25 games.
Florida Memorial scored the game's first run in the second for a 1-0 lead but Keivan Berges tied it in the third on an RBI single to left. Northwood took a 2-1 advantage in the fourth when Ryan Palenzuela scored from second on two throwing errors. Neither team managed a run after that with the Seahawks taking home the 2-1 victory.
Cody Gray threw the complete game, allowing one run on five hits while striking out nine batters. Gray improved to 6-2 overall on the year with the win.
Carlos Contreras went 4-4 with four singles at the plate. Jesus Fuenmayor and Berges accounted for the other two hits.
With the win, Northwood moves to 32-7 overall and 17-2 in Sun Conference play. These same teams meet tomorrow in a doubleheader starting at 12:00. Prior to the contest the Seahawks will honor their seniors.
