Two Big Innings Lift #7 Baseball to 11-5 Win Over Palm Beach Atlantic

The #7 Northwood baseball team took down NCAA Division 2 Palm Beach Atlantic 11-5 on Wednesday evening. The Seahawks used a big third and seventh inning en route to the victory.

The Sail Fish took an early 2-0 lead in the second inning when the Seahawks got on the board with four runs in the third inning. Carlos Contreras started the scoring with an RBI single to left field cutting it to 2-1 and a fielders choice by Keivan Berges gave the Seahawks a 3-1 advantage. Ryan Palenzuela platted the final run of the inning on a single to center upping it to 4-1. Northwood then blew the game open with a six run seventh.

Contreras picked up his second RBI on a single up the middle and an RBI bunt by Casey Mullennix pushed the lead to 6-1. Two wild pitches and two walks followed extending it to 10-1. Palm Beach Atlantic scored two runs in the seventh, but a pinch hit RBI single to left by Tyler Goff made it 11-4.The Sail Fish got one last run in the eighth but got no closer falling 11-5.

Andrew Danner and Contreras led the way at dish with two hits apiece. Andres Caraveo moved to 6-0 on the year throwing six innings, striking out six. Alan Carey threw 2.1 innings of strong relief striking out four batters.

Head Coach Jeremy Kennedy on the win, "It was good one for us, its always good when you can take one from one of the schools in the area. Andres was really the difference. He did a good job with this start. He is not a starter for us but we know he can get outs and he did more than we needed tonight. The game was a sloppy one but we got the job done and sometimes thats all that matters."

With the win, Northwood improves to 29-7 overall. The Seahawks return home on Saturday for a doubleheader against Edward Waters at 1:00 and 3:30 0.m.
