The #7 Northwood baseball team blanked Warner 9-0 in the opener of a three game series on Friday. The Seahawks used strong pitching by Cody Gray who went eight innings striking out eight batters.
Northwood struck first in the second inning on a solo homerun to left field by Keivan Berges. The Seahawks added a run in fifth on an RBI single by Joee Reyna pushing the lead to 2-0. Beges picked up his second RBI with a double to left center scoring Tyler Hitt making it 3-0. The home team then broke the game open with five runs in the seventh inning.
A pinch two run double to left center by Tyler Goff made it 5-0, and a three run homer to right center by Luis Roman extended the lead to 8-0. Northwood pushed their final run across in the eighth on a sacrifice fly to center by Carlos Contreras winning the game 9-0.
Berges led the way at the plate with two hits and two runs batted in, and Roman with one hit and three runs batted in. Weston Wuthrich threw the ninth inning in relief of Gray.
With the win, Northwood improves to 26-7 overall and 14-2 in conference play. These same two teams meet tomorrow in a doubleheader starting at 11:00 a.m.
