The Northwood baseball team swept Florida Memorial in a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon on the road. The Seahawks took game one 2-1, before cruising in game two to a 16-3 win.
The Seahawks got on the board in the third inning scoring on a wild pitch for an early 1-0 lead. Florida Memorial tied the game in the fifth at 1-1. Carlos Contreras doubled to left center in the seventh scoring Jesus Fuenmayor lifting Northwood to the 2-1 win.
Andres Caraveo picked up the win throwing two innings of relief, striking out four. Alan Carey notched his third save of the year throwing the seventh.
In game two, an Andrew Danner RBI groundout to second gave the Seahawks a 1-0 lead and a two run homer by Luis Roman to right center stretched it to 3-0 after one. Northwood tacked on five more runs in the second.
A wild pitch pushed the first across, and back to back RBI singles by Gabby Mundo and Keivan Berges upped the lead to 7-0. An RBI double to left field by Roman extended it to 8-0 after two innings. The Lions got a run back in bottom half cutting it to 8-1. An error and Contreras single to right field made it 10-1. Berges then drove a ball to deep left center for a double scoring the final run of the third for the 11-1 advantage.
In the fourth, the first three batters reached by walk when Mundo was hit by a pitch upping the lead to 12-1. An Andrew Danner RBI ground out made it 13-1, a wild pitch upped it to 14-1, a double by Berges extended it to 15-1 and a Roman RBI single got it to 16-1. Florida Memorial cut the deficit in the sixth with runs making it 16-3.
Patrick Barrington picked up the win throwing four innings, striking out five while only allowing three hits.
With the wins, Northwood improves to 25-7 overall. The Seahawks return home on Friday to begin a three game series with Warner University. The first pitch is set for 2:30 p.m.
