The #7 Northwood baseball team fell to NCAA D2 #11 on Wednesday afternoon by a final of 8-5.
Lynn got on the board first with a run in the second inning for a 1-0 lead. Northwood threatened in the fourth inning when Luis Roman walked and stole second and third with one out but could not score. The Fighting Knights then tacked on three more runs in the fourth extending their lead to 4-0.
The Seahawks pushed their first run across in the fifth on a Ryan Palenzuela double to right center trailing 4-1. An infield single in the sixth by Gabby Mundo cut it to 4-2, and a Carlos Contreras walk made it 4-3. However, Lynn answered right back with two runs of their own pushing back out to a 6-3 advantage. The Fighting Knights added a run in the seventh making it 7-3, but an RBI single up the middle in the eighth by Roman cut it to 7-4.
Lynn platted a run in the eighth, when Casey Mullennix hammered a ball over the left field wall falling 8-5. Northwood outhit their opponents 11-8, with Mundo leading the way with three hits, and Andrew Danner with two hits. The Seahawks fall to 19-7 overall on the year.
Head Coach Jeremy Kennedy afterwards, "That was a very disappointing loss because we had so many opportunities to score runs and we repeatedly had bad at bats. Anytime you leave 16 runners on base its not going to be a good result. Our approaches at the plate were horrible with runners in scoring position. We allowed them to get outs without throwing strikes, over and over. We have a lot of things to clean up before we can expect to be a legitimate contender on the national stage."
The Seahawks return to the diamond on Friday when they welcome #18 USC Beaufort for a three game series. The single game Friday is slated to begin at 2:30 p.m.Â
