Southeastern Defeats Women's Basketball 74-63

The Northwood women's basketball team fell to Southeastern on Saturday afternoon 74-63 . The Seahawks go to 4-17 overall and 3-9 in Sun Conference play.

A back and forth first eight minutes with neither team taking a larger lead then a possession until Southeastern pushed out to a 15-11 lead with 12:07 showing. The Seahawks answered back tying the game at 15-15 with two straight baskets by Emily May, however the Fire retook a 23-15 advantage at the 7:19 mark.

Southeastern extended their lead all the way to 35-21, but Northwood closed the half on a 6-0 run. A Lakeisha Blanson layup started the run capped by a Gabriella Goeins bucket making it 35-27 at the halftime break.

The second half was all Southeastern till their were eight minutes remaining in the game, when Dana Gildea hit three straight threes cutting the defecit to 60-47 with 7:21 to go in the game. The fire pushed back out to a 69-54 lead when two free throws by Blanson started a 6-0 run capped by two free throws by Goeins making it 69-60 with 1:30 remaining. However, Northwood could not get any closer falling 74-63.

Four starters reached double figures led by May with 15 points and six rebounds. Blanson and Gildea both had 11 points apiece while Stephanie Granada had 11 and six assists.

On defense, Northwood forced 15 turnovers, with Blanson having four steals and Granada with three.

The Seahawks return to action on Tuesday when Embry-Riddle comes to town for a 5:00 p.m. tipoff. In their last meeting the Embry-Riddle came away with the 75-56 win.
