A big second half was not enough as the Northwood women's basketball fell to Embry-Riddle 66-55 on Tuesday evening. The Seahawks go to 4-17 overall and 3-9 in Sun Conference play.
Embry-Riddle came out strong taking an early 20-7 lead when Dana Gildea layed the ball in starting a 6-0 run capped by a pair of free throws by Kiera Duncanson making it 20-13 with 8:12 left. The Eagles pushed back out to a 26-16 margin, before Northwood got the closest all half at 26-20 with 5:21 to go. However, the Seahawks went into the break trailing 38-24.
The Eagles took a 43-26 lead in the second half when a Hannah Del Negro three pointer sparked a 16-2 run that was capped by a Duncanson jumper getting to within 45-42 with 10:38 left in regulation. Embry-Riddle answered with a 9-0 run, however a Gildea three pointer started an 11-2 run capped by a Stephanie Granada jumper getting to within three at 56-53 at 3:48 mark. Down the stretch, the Seahawks could not get any closer going on to fall 65-55.
Granada led the way with 14 points, while Duncanson chipped in 11 off the bench. Emily May and Gildea both had five rebounds. The defense forced their opponents into 29 turnovers, picking up 15 steals.
The Seahawks get back into action on Thursday when they take on Florida Memorial at St. Thomas. The game is set for 6:00 p.m.
