The Northwood baseball team upended Webber International 8-1 on Friday evening in game one of a three game series. The Seahawks improve to 11-5 overall and 5-2 in Sun Conference play.
Ryan Palenzuela doubled in the first two runs of the game in the first inning for an early 2-0 advantage. The Warriors cut the deficit in half in the fourth inning before the Seahawks blew the game open with six runs in the sixth.
Keivan Berges singled and Palenzuela reached on an error, then both runners moved a base on a sacrifice bunt by Luis Roman. Damian Boyum walked and a wild pitch scored a run pushing the lead to 3-1. Brandon Crawford platted the next run with an RBI groundout to pitcher and the next run was scored on an error by the short stop making it 5-1. The final runs of the game came off a three run home run by Casey Mullennix winning the game 8-1.
Cody Gray picked up the win moving to 2-2 overall on the season, pitching six innings striking out nine batters. He only allowed three hits and the one run was unearned. Northwood outhit their opponents 8-1 on the night.
These same two teams conclude the three game series tomorrow with a double header. The games are set for 11:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
