The Northwood men's basketball eased by Thomas 83-66, in their regular season finale. Prior to the start of the game, the Seahawks honored seniors Ian Umpierre, Chris Solomon, Marcus Hardy, Fred Mattison, Danny Nieman, and Malte Ziegenhagen.
The Seahawks started strong jumping out to a 9-2 lead before stretching it out to 14-4 with 15:17 showing on the clock. The Night Hawks closed the gap to 19-15 when a three by Andrija Sarenac sparked a 16-4 run taking a commanding 35-19 advantage with 5:14 to go in the half. Thomas continued chipping away but went into the half trailing Northwood 40-28.
Thomas fought all the back to 49-43, but a Hardy layup jump started an 18-6 response stretching their lead back out to 67-49 with 6:39 left in regulation. The Night Hawks made one last run getting to 72-59 but an Umpierre layup started a 9-2 answer giving Northwood their largest lead of the day of 81-61 with 1:25 to go. The Seahawks cruised from their taking the 83-66 win.
In the game, Northwood shot 53 percent from the field on 30-56 and went 11-21 from behind the arc led by Sarenac's six threes.
Hardy and Sarenac led the way with 19 points apiece, while Solomon threw in 15 and Umpierre with 11. Mattison had a game high 14 rebounds, and Umpierre nine assists. On defense, Mattison and Hardy each had two blocks.
With the win, Northwood improves to 18-11 overall and 10-8 in Sun Conference play. The Seahawks will await their opponent and time for their Sun Conference opener.
