The Northwood women's basketball team's second half effort was not enough as Webber International came away with a 68-62 win on Saturday afternoon.
Webber took a quick 6-2 lead before Northwood tied it up at 6-6 and took their first lead on a Dana Gildea three at 9-6 with 14:17 showing. An Emily May three gave the visitors their largest lead of the half at 12-8 and held on to the advantage until the Warriors tied it at 18-18 with 5:12 to go in the half. Webber closed out the half on a 16-9 run putting the Seahawks in a 34-27 hole heading into the break.
Coming out of the break, Webber took the largest lead of the game at 41-29, when a Mallory Burton jumper sparked a 20-3 run capped by a Hannah Del Negro three retaking a 49-44 advantage with 7:53 to go. The Warriors kept chipping away eventually taking back a 57-55 lead with 3:30 to go.
The Seahawks were able to knot the game at 59-59 with a three ball by Gildea at 2:51 showing, but that is as close as they would get. The home team responded with a 7-0 run regaining a 67-59 lead with 17 seconds left and holding on for the 68-62 win.
Lakeisha Blanson led the way with 16 points, going 8-11 from the free throw line and Gildea had ten points. T'aundra Wrighter had a game high nine rebounds, and May had three assists.
With the loss, Northwood falls to 4-20 overall and 3-12 in conference play. The Seahawks return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Warner for a 5:00 p.m. tipoff.
