Northwood women's basketball lost to Warner on the road 73-66 on Wednesday evening. The Seahawks fell despite terrific games from seniors Lakeisha Blanson and Dana Gildea.
Blanson scored 11 of Northwood's first 16 points; however Warner held a slim 20-16 lead with 10:25 remaining in the half. The Royals extended their advantage to 28-16, when Gildea scored five straight starting a 9-2 run capped by an Emily May jumper getting to within 30-25 with 3:29 to go. The Seahawks though went into the break trailing 35-29.
Warner took a 47-38 lead in the new half, when Stepahnie Granada converted on a jumper and free throw along with five straight by Blanson getting to within a possession at 49-46 with 13:12 showing. The Lions responded with a 6-0 run but a Granada jumper spurted a 14-4 run giving the Seahawks their first lead since early in the contest at 60-59 with 3:58 left. Unfortunately, the Seahawks could not keep up down the stretch falling 73-66.
Blanson led the way with 25 points on 7-9 shooting from the field and 10-12 from the free throw line. Gildea chipped in 23 points on 7-13 from the field and 6-8 from beyond the arc. Blanson and May both had six rebounds, while Granada had four assists.
The Seahawks return to action on Thursday when they travel to take on Ave Maria. The game is set to begin at 5:00 p.m.
