The Northwood baseball team fell in their home opener 5-1 to Ave Maria on Friday afternoon. The Seahawks fall to 2-3 overall and 0-1 in Sun Conference play.

Gabby Mundo led the bottom of the first off with a home run giving Northwood the 1-0 advantage. Ave Maria came back tying the game in third with a run making it 1-1. Jesus Fuenmayor walked to get the third started before moving up a base on a sacrifice by Mundo. A passed ball moved Fuenmayor to third but could not score keeping the game knotted at 1-1 heading into the fourth.

The Gyrenes took their first lead of the game in the fifth scoring three runs for the 4-1 advantage. However, the Seahawks looked to strike back in the bottom half of the frame. Fuenmayor singled before Mundo doubled but Fuenmayor was thrown out at the plate ending the threat and the inning.  

Ave Maria tacked on an insurance run in ninth and went on to take game one 5-1. Cody Gray suffered the loss going five innings striking out four. Mundo and Fuenmayor both had two hits apiece pacing the offense.

Both these teams will conclude the three game series tomorrow with a double header. The firth pitch is scheduled for 11:00 am.
