The Seahawks women's basketball team kicked off the Keiser Classic with a 67-53 setback to Mount Mercy on Monday evening.
How it Happened - The Mustangs scored the opening basket, when Dominique Winbush started a 7-1 run capped by a Claudia Reque free throw, to go in front 9-3 with 7:03 showing in the first quarter.
- Mount Mercy took their largest lead of the half at 21-14, before Desirai Smith hit a long three pointer at the buzzer, cutting the deficit to 21-17 at the half.
- Keiser trailed 44-28 at the 4:37 mark of the third when a Murphy three pointer sparked a 10-3 run ended on a Reque layup to trail 47-38 with 6:55 remaining in the final quarter.
- The Seahawks got to within 58-51 with 1:18 to go but got no closer falling 67-53.
Inside the Box3: Reque scored a game high 16 points, while Murphy (14) and Smith (11) recorded double digits.
