The Keiser University women's basketball team fell to #7 Marian 65-52 on Sunday afternoon. The Seahawks moved to 6-6 overall heading into the winter break.
How it Happened- Marian scored the opening point on a free throw before Desirai Smith laid it in for a brief 2-1 lead. However, Marian controlled the remainder of the quarter going ahead 12-4.
- After a Knights free throw, Alasjia Dykes hit a jumper in the paint starting a 15-0 run that turned into a 19-1 run retaking a 23-14 lead with 2:04 left in the half.
- The Seahawks did not allow a field goal in the second until the 1:26 mark and went into the half with a 23-21 advantage.
- Keiser did not relinquish the advantage until there was 6:04 showing in the third and Marian went in front 36-30.
- Claudia Reque then hit a three pointer and Courtney Murphy connected on a jumper cutting the deficit to 36-35, but the Sabers closed the quarter on a 9-1 run, pushing back out to a 44-37 advantage.
- Trailing 49-39, two minutes into the final quarter, Reque laid it in sparking a 5-1 run to trail 50-44 with 5:52 remaining, but Keiser got no closer falling 65-52.
Inside the Box2: Reque scored a game high 14 points and Murphy had 11 of her own.
4: Reque and Smith both had game high in assists.
5: Smith had a game high in steals, while forcing 15 Marian turnovers.
