Volleyballs Holds on For 3-2 Win Against Florida Memorial

The Seahawks volleyball team had to fight off Florida Memorial in a five set match on Saturday afternoon. Keiser won the first two sets, before dropping the next two but won the decisive fifth set.

What Occurred
The Seahawks were looking to rebound after falling to St. Thomas 3-1 just 24 hours prior and came out strong winning the first set 25-11. The Seahawks led 5-3 when they used a 16-3 run going out in front 21-6 and never looked back.

In the second, the Lions led 3-1 but Keiser used a 7-1 run retaking an 8-4 advantage. Florida Memorial continued chipping away getting within 21-20 when Keiser closed out the set 5-0 winning 25-20.

Florida Memorial had a 9-8 lead in the third, when a Chantelle Zamora kill sparked an 8-2 run retaking a 16-11 advantage. The Seahawks were then outscored 12-2 falling behind 23-18 and dropping the set 25-20.

Keiser found themselves in a 20-12 hole during the fourth, when a Veera Hietala kill started a 6-0 run getting to within 20-18. However, Florida Memorial closed out the set 5-1 winning 25-19 forcing the decisive fifth set.

In the fifth, the Lions were in front 4-3 when a 7-1 run put the Seahawks back in front 10-5. FMU go to within 11-7 when the Seahawks won the next four points for the 15-7 victory.

Inside the Box
--Nikki McKown and Chantelle Zamora each had nine kills.
--Nicole Papineau ended with a match high 38 assists for the second straight night.
--On defense, Gida Victor had 3.5 blocks, while Ashley Marvel had 22 digs.
--Keiser is now 20-10 overall on the year and 5-5 in Sun Conference play.

Up Next
The Seahawks will return home on Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. taking on Southeastern. Keiser currently trail the Fire by one game in the standings for the third spot.
