Volleyball Takes Down Florida Memorial 3-1

The Keiser University volleyball team defeated Florida Memorial 3-1 on Saturday afternoon in Sun Conference play. Florida Memorial won the first set, before the Seahawks won the last three.

Set One
Keiser jumped out to a 7-1 lead behind the serving of Megan Minke but Florida Memorial continued battling finally tying it at 20-20. After six ties and two lead changes, the Lions prevailed winning 28-26.

Set Two
Nicole Papineau served the Seahawks to a 5-0 lead with two service aces, before stretching the advantage to 8-2 behind an ace and kill by Veera Hietala. The Lions cut the deficit to 16-15, when a Nikki McKown kill began a 5-0 run pushing out to a 21-15 advantage. Florida Memorial trimmed it to 21-18 but got no closer falling 25-20.

Set Three
Keiser came out quick taking an 8-2 lead but Florida Memorial responded with two straight points making it 8-4. A McKown kill followed starting a 9-1 run featuring a pair of Ashley Marvel service aces taking a commanding 17-5 lead. The Lions won the next point, but a Hietala kill began an 8-0 run to close out the set winning 25-6.

Set Four
Florida Memorial led 6-2 when a Minke kill began a 9-0 run capped by a Hietala kill regaining an 11-6 advantage. The Lions trailed 14-9 when a Hietala kill started a 5-0 run giving Keiser a 19-9 lead. The Seahawks continued cruising winning 25-14.

Offense/Defense
McKown led the way with 19 kills, while Hietala had 11 and Minke with ten. Papineau had five service aces and 40 assists. Kelsie Kopicki , Gida Victor, and Minke had three blocks.

Up Next
With win, Keiser improves to 14-5 overall and 2-2 in Sun Conference play. The Seahawks hit the road on Thursday traveling to Florida College for a 7:00 match.
