The Keiser University volleyball team fell in a hard fought three set match to Southeastern on Saturday afternoon.
Set OneSoutheastern led 4-2, when a
Nikki McKown kill started a 4-1 run capped by two straight
Gida Victor kills putting Keiser in front 6-5. However, the Fire answered scoring the next six points retaking an 11-6 advantage. The Seahawks trailed 15-11 when 4-0 run behind a pair
Megan Minke service aces tied the match at 15-15. Again Southeastern responded with the next five points taking a 20-15 lead but Keiser battled back getting to within 23-20. A service error followed starting a 4-0 run giving Keiser a 24-23 lead. The Fire fought off ttwo straight set points at 25-24, and 26-25 and went on to win 28-26.
Set TwoThe Fire jumped out to a 4-1 lead before doubling their advantage to 8-2. Southeastern led 21-13, when a McKown kill began a 6-1 run capped by a
Morgan Leff service ace getting to within 22-19. However, the Seahawks could not get any closer falling 25-21.
Set ThreeA closely played set with ten ties and four lead changes with neither team taking a larger lead then two until the Fire went in front 16-12. Southeastern maintained their lead until Keiser went on a 4-0 run knotting it at 24-24. Southeastern held off the late rally, pulling out a 26-24 win.
Offense/DefenseChantelle Zamora led the way with ten kills and one block. Minke had two service aces while
Nicole Papineau passed for 32 assists.
Up NextKeiser falls to 18-8 overall and 3-3 in Sun Conference play. The Seahawks return to the court on Friday traveling to Webber for a 7:00 p.m. match.
