The Northwood women's basketball team lost to Johnson & Wales at home on Saturday afternoon 61-57. The Seahawks move to 4-15 overall and 3-7 in conference play.
The Seahawks jumped out to an early 7-2 lead before the Wildcats fought back tying it at 10-10 with 14:39 on the clock. Johnson & Wales took their first lead at 21-16 before Hannah Del Negro scored the next five points regaining a 23-21 lead at the 5:20 mark. The Seahawks went on to take a 31-27 advantage into the break.
In the new half, Northwood stretched their lead to the largest of the game at 39-32 with 17:24 left in regulation. The Wildcats clawed back regaining a 44-43 lead at 12:35 to go, however Lakeisha Blanson answered scoring six straight later in the half retaking a 52-51 at the 5:42 mark. Down the stretch, Johnson & Wales held on for the 61-57 win.
Dana Gildea led the way with 14 points, while Stephanie Granada had 12 points and nine assists. May chipped in 11, while Del Negro had eight off the bench. May had a team high seven rebounds.
The Seahawks return to the court on Wednesday at home when they welcome St. Thomas. The game is set for 6:00 p.m. In their previous meeting this year, the Bobcats won 65-51.
