Men's Basketball Falls to #2 Embry-Riddle 77-67

The Seahawks men's basketball team fell against their rival #2 Embry-Riddle 77-67 on Wednesday evening. Northwood moves to 12-7 overall and 5-4 in conference play.

The Eagles held an early 12-4 lead when a Marcus Hardy basket started a 12-3 run capped off by a Fred Mattison bucket giving the Seahawks their first lead at 16-15 with 9:49 showing. A back and forth next seven minutes saw three ties and five lead changes before Embry-Riddle led 28-26. The Seahawks closed out the half on an 8-0 run behind threes by Chris Solomon and Danny Nieman making it 34-28.

In the new half, Embry-Riddle trimmed the margin to 38-35 when Northwood used a 6-2 run pushing out to a 44-37 advantage with 15:29 left in the half. The next four minutes the Eagles got to within three but three huge buckets including two threes by Andrija Sarenac held them off for a 57-53 advantage with 11:40 remaining. However, the Seahawks lost the lead at 58-57 at the 11:00 minute mark of the final period.

Over the next six and half minutes, there were three ties and five lead changes with neither team taking a larger lead then three till the score was 65-65 and the home pulled out to a 71-65 lead with 4:10 remaining in the game. The Seahawks came up on the short falling by a final of 77-67 on the road.

Sarenac led four players in double figures with 17 points on 7-10 shooting from the field. Mattison had 13, while Solomon chipped in 12 and Hardy with 10. Hardy had a team high five rebounds, while Nieman had seven assists.

Northwood returns to action at home on Saturday when they welcome Johnson & Wales for a Sun Conference matchup. The game is set for 4:00 pm. Fans don't forget to wear white to the game.
