WEST PALM BEACH, Fl.---The Seahawks women's basketball team fell to Florida Memorial on Saturday afternoon 88-71. Northwood falls to 4-13 overall and 3-5 in conference play.
Florida Memorial took an early 5-2 lead before a pair of free throws by Lakeisha Blanson started a 14-6 run capped off by a Hannah Del Negro jumper making it 19-8 with 12:26 left. The Lions trimmed it to 25-23 when Dana Gildea and Stephanie Granada converted on baskets pushing the lead to 29-23 with 5:36 showing. The Seahawks could not keep up during the final five minutes going into the break trailing 46-36.
In the second half, Northwood used a 7-2 run trimming the margin to 52-45 with 15:21 left in regulation. However, Florida Memorial cruised the remainder of the game pulling away with a 88-71 win.
Gildea led four players in double digits with 16. Granada had 15 points and a team high five assists., while Blanson chipped in 13. GIldea also led the way in rebounds with six.
Northwood returns to action on Wednesday when they travel to take on first year program Embry-Riddle. The game is set for 5:15 p.m.
