Women's Basketball Suffer 69-66 Defeat to Webber

WEST PALM BEACH, Fl.---The Northwood women's basketball team dropped a tough one to Webber International 69-66 on Wednesday evening. With the loss, the Seahawks fall to 2-11 overall and 1-3 in Sun Conference play.

With the score tied at 6-6, Dana Gildea started a 7-0 run, capped off with a three pointer by Claudia Reque taking a 13-6 lead with 11:58 on the clock. Webber International closed to within 17-15, when Kiera Duncanson sparked a 9-2 run capped off by back to back threes by Gildea for a 25-17 advantage with 4:09 left. However, the Warriors took a 28-27 advantage into the break, which was also their first lead of the game.

A back and forth first four minutes saw four lead changes, and four ties. Webber tried extended their lead to 57-51, but a pair of Northwood baskets got them back to within a possession at 57-55 with 5:24 remaining. Again, the Warriors pushed out a six point margin at 66-60 but three free throws by Lakeisha Blanson trimmed it 66-63 with 18 seconds left.

Northwood then fouled and Webber converted one free throw making it 67-63. Emily May  answered hitting  a three trimming it to 67-66 with nine seconds remaining.  However, a pair of free throws and a missed three pointer at the buzzer by Duncanson lifted Webber to the 69-66 win.

The Seahawks held a 40-33 edge on the boards in the contest. The team shot 46.8 percent from the field and 10-19 from beyond the arc. The defense forced 14 turnovers

Gildea led the way with 24 points on 6-8 shooting from deep, while Blanson chipped in 11 going 9-11 from the charity stripe. Stephanie Granada had a team high six assists, and Mallory Burton had seven rebounds.
