Women's Basketball Falls to St. Thomas 65-51

MIAMI GARDENS, Fl. --- The Northwood women's basketball team fell to St. Thomas 65-51 on Saturday afternoon in Sun Conference play. The Seahawks drop to 2-10 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

The first 13 minutes of the game had nine ties, and two lead changes with neither team taking a larger lead than three. With the scored tied at 19-19, the Bobcats created separation pushing out to a 24-19 lead with 6:15 on the clock. Three minutes later, Northwood trailed 33-27, when Chanel Brooks scored six straight points in an 8-1 run to close the half, leading 35-34.

In the first half, the Seahawks shot 50 percent from the field, while forcing there opponents into 12 turnovers. The team also had eight steals on the defensive end.

Claudia Reque hit a jumper coming out of the break giving the Seahawks their largest lead of the game at 37-34. However, St. Thomas controlled the rest of the game going on for a 65-51 Sun Conference victory.

Dana Gildea led the way with nine points, while Stephanie Granada, Lakeisha Blanson, Emily May all had eight points apiece. Gildea led the way six rebounds, while Kiera Duncanson and Granada had three assists.

The Seahawks return to action on Wednesday night at home when they welcome Webber International. The game is set to begin at 5:00 p.m.
