Men's Basketball Suffers 73-67 Setback to St. Thomas

MIAMI GARDENS, Fl. ---The #13 Seahawks men's basketball team fell to St. Thomas on Saturday afternoon in Sun Conference play 73-67 on the road. Northwood falls to 9-4 overall and 2-1 in Sun Conference play.

With the score tied at 10-10, Chris Solomon scored five straight giving Northwood a 15-10 lead, but St. Thomas answered tying it at 15-15 with 9:32 on the clock. The Bobcats pushed out to a 23-19 lead when Julian Smith scored and made a free throw, trimming the margin to 23-22 with 5:46 left. However, St. Thomas controlled the remainder of the half taking a 38-24 lead into the half.

In the second half with the Bobcats leading 43-34, Marcus Hardy started an 8-2 run getting to within 45-42 with 12:51 left. St. Thomas extended their lead to 54-46, but the Seahawks trimmed the deficit to 58-53 with 6:16 left in regulation. Trailing 68-58 with 3:47 left, the Seahawks used a 9-3 run, getting to within 71-67 with 43 seconds left. St. Thomas held on for the 73-67 victory.

Solomon led three players in double figures with 17 points. Chris Lee and Hardy each had 11 points apiece. Fred Mattison had a team high nine rebounds, while four players had two assists apiece.

Northwood returns to the court on Wednesday at home against Webber International. The game is slated to begin a 7:00 p.m.
