WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The Northwood Seahawks women's soccer team opened Sun Conference action with an impressive performance and earned a convincing 11-0 victory over S.C. Beaufort on Friday afternoon.
The Lady Seahawks are unbeaten in their last five games with four wins and one tie.
Johanna Engberg scored three goals and had three assists while Linnea Lindmark tallied three goals and two assists in the victory. Gina Maschenic added two goals.
The Lady Seahawks jumped out to the early lead. Engberg took a pass from Hanna Lindstrom and dribbled into the box past the goalkeeper before finishing with a shot into the right corner of the net to make it 1-0 with 40:05 left.
Lindmark extended the Seahawks lead to 2-0 with 34:30 left in the first half. She drilled a shot from the left corner into the top right of the net.
The Lady Seahawks started to pull away later in the first half. Engberg found Julia Axengren open as she dribbled past a defender with a clear path and fired a shot into the top right corner of the net with 22:12 remaining in the first half.
Erin Wells received a pass from Lindmark and cruised into the box and scored to make it 4-0 with 18:21 left in the opening half.
The Lady Seahawks had quality scoring chances throughout the first half as Engberg hit the post and had another goal negated due to an offsides penalty.
In the opening minutes of the second half, the Lady Seahawks pushed their lead to 5-0. Lindmark took a pass from Engberg and fired a shot for a goal with 41:51 left.
Engberg and Lindmark both scored consecutively within nearly minutes of each other to push the lead to 7-0 early in the second half.
Engberg's goal at the 57:50 mark of the second half made it 8-0.
Maschenic was able to add to the scoring at the 65:37 mark to give the Seahawks a 9-0 advantage.
Molly Lukk, who also had an assist, extended the lead to 10-0 at the 71:52 mark of the game.
Maschenic capped the scoring with her second goal of the contest.
The Lady Seahawks return to the field and will host SCAD at 3 p.m. on Sunday, September 28.
