WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The 13th-ranked Northwood University women's soccer team perservered in a hard-fought game as Linnea Lindmark's goal in double overtime lifted the host Seahawks to a 3-2 victory over SCAD on Sunday.
Amy Vaughan sent a crossing pass inside the box to Lindmark as she finished with a shot into the right corner of the net with 2:31 left in double overtime.
Lindmark had a goal and assist while Johanna Engberg scored two goals. Vaughan added two assists to pace the Seahawks offense.
The Lady Seahawks trailed 1-0 early in the first half, before scoring two straight goals to take the lead into halftime.
The Lady Bees scored a late goal in the second half to force overtime.
In the first half, Olivia Buechler fired a strike to the top right corner of the net to give the Lady Bees a 1-0 advantage at the 28:39 mark.
The Lady Seahawks quickly responded less than three minutes later. Engberg received a pass from Lindmark inside the box and finished with a shot into the left corner of the net with 25:45 remaining in the opening half.
The Seahawks took the lead at the 7:21 mark of the first half. Vaughan found Engberg inside the box as she dribbled past the goalkeeper and scored to give the Seahawks their first lead.
The Lady Bees tied the score as Buechler fired a shot from outside the box into the net with 6:59 left in regulation.
Seahawks goalkeeper Matilda Hjalte had a diving save in the first overtime to keep the game tied.
"SCAD has a good team and we kept them hanging in the game and they were able to take their chances at us to tie the score, "Northwood women's soccer head coach Mat Dunn said. " We showed a lot of character to comeback in overtime and I am happy we came away with the win. We have to improve on finishing and we had so many great chances to score. We have to work on that in practice. It's great to get two wins this weekend and keep the unbeaten streak in the conference going."
The Seahawks improved to 5-4-2 overall and 2-0 in the Sun Conference. They will visit Webber International on Friday, October 3 at 3 p.m.
