Women's Basketball Defeats Johnson & Wales 88-68

The Seahawks women's basketball team defeated Johnson & Wales 88-68 on Saturday afternoon. The victory moves Northwood to 1-3 overall and 1-0 in Sun Conference play.

Northwood started fast out of the gate scoring the first 12 points of the game and not allowing the Wildcats to get on the scoreboard till the 15 minute mark making it 12-3. Over the next seven minutes, the Seahawks outscored their opponents 18-6 pushing their lead out to 30-9. Northwood closed the half on a 7-2 run taking their largest lead of the half at 48-26.

In the second half, the Seahawks continued their dominance taking their largest lead of the game at 82-53 with two minutes left. Northwood went on to win the contest by a final of 88-68.

The Seahawks out rebounded their opponents 30-18, and had 13 offensive boards. Five players reached double digit points with Lakeisha Blanson leading the way with 26 points. Chanel Brooks had 17 points and 17 rebounds, while Stephanie Granada had 17 points also. Mallory Burton had 11 points while Emily May contributed ten.

After the game Head Coach Courtney McDaniel said, "We had six hard working players, six great attitudes, six passionate players, and six big hearts that played all in all and all together for 40 minutes." "The support of their teammates brought us to a different level and that is what this game is about." "Laying it all on the line for your team and your program and I am very proud of everyone's effort, energy, enthusiasm, and our execution."

Northwood returns to action on Tuesday, December 16 at home when they welcome Briar Cliff (Iowa). The tipoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
