WEST PALM BEACH, FL.---The Seahawks women's basketball team dropped their home opener on Tuesday afternoon 80-64 to Briar Cliff. With the loss, Northwood falls to 1-5 overall on the season.
The Seahawks jumped out to an early 13-9 lead with 13:52 on the clock, before the Chargers took control of the half and mounted a 37-21 lead with 2:30 to go. Over the final two and half minutes, Northwood outscored their oppoents 15-5 behind four three pointers with Emily May connecting on two and Lakeisha Blanson with a pair. Stephanie Granada finished the half converting on all three free throw attempts from the line and trailed 42-38 heading into the half
In the second half, Northwood was unable to keep up with the Chargers falling in the contest 80-64. Three players reached double figures on the day led by May with 28 points on 10-16 shooting from the field and 4-6 from deep. Blanson was close behind with 17 points and Mallory Burton with ten points.
Claudia Reque had a game high eight assists, and May had a team high seven rebounds with four coming on the offensive boards. May also had a game high five steals on the defensive end.
Northwood returns to the home court on Thursday afternoon when they take on Xavier. The tipoff is slated for 2:00 p.m.
