#3 Men's Basketball Runs Past Apprentice 93-75 in English Family Classic

WEST PALM BEACH, FL. ---#3 Northwood University men's basketball upended Apprentice School 93-75, in the first day of the English Family Classic. With the victory, the Seahawks move to 5-0 overall on the season.

The Seahawks came out of the gate fast jumping out to a 10-3 lead behind a pair of baskets by Chris Lee and two threes from Chris Solomon. The Builders trimmed the lead to 12-9, but Northwood answered with a 6-0 run extending their lead to 18-9 with 13:07 left in the first half. Apprentice cut the deficit to 22-20, however the Seahawks again responded with a 13-0 run pushing their lead to 33-22 with 5:10 remaining in the half. Northwood went on to take a 44-32 advantage into the locker room.

The second half saw the Seahawks start fast again, outscoring their opponents 7-2 in the first two minutes for a 51-36 lead. The Seahawks then used an 8-0 run to build a comfortable lead at 62-42 with 14:49 remaining. The home team went on to take their largest of the game at 76-54 with 10:48 to go in the contest. Both teams traded buckets during the last ten minutes of the half with Northwood going on to win the game by a final of 93-75.

Northwood shot 45 percent from the field with Solomon leading the way with 20 points, while Julian Smith chipped in 12 off the bench. Also reaching double figures were Malte Ziegenhagen with 11 and Fred Mattison with ten. Ian Umpierre had a game high six assists, while Mattison had game high 11 rebounds.

On the defensive end, the Seahawks had 12 steals led by Solomon with three. Smith and Solomon also contributed two blocks.

The Seahawks return to the home court tomorrow when they take on #10 St. Francis in the second day of the English Family Classic. The tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. following the Apprentice vs Florida National game.
