WEST PALM BEACH, FL.--- A big second half lifted #3 Northwood University men's basketball team over #10 Saint Francis 69-65 on Saturday night. The Seahawks outscored their opponents 39-24 during the second period.
The Cougars held an early 7-6 lead before the Seahawks used a 9-2 run taking a 15-9 lead with 13:55 showing. Saint Francis controlled the rest of the half taking a 41-30 lead into the halftime break.
Malte Ziegenhagen hit a jumper to start the second half that sparked a 13-2 run trimming the deficit to 43-41 with 15:41 to go in the game. The Cougars responded pushing their lead back out to four, but a Marcus Hardy jumper started a 6-0 run that was capped off by a Chris Solomon lay up giving the Seahawks their first lead of the half at 49-47 with 12:03 remaining.
The Seahawks then built their lead up to 59-55; however, Saint Francis had one last push in them retaking the lead at 60-59 with 5:24 on the clock. Over the final five minutes, Northwood held a one possession lead, when Ziegenhagen hit a clutch three pointer with 28 seconds remaining lifting his team to a 69-65 victory.
Northwood outrebounded their opponents 28-27, and had six blocks while causing 14 turnovers. Solomon led the way with 24 points, while Ziegenahgen and Hardy contributed 13 points apiece. Hardy had a game high 11 rebounds and six assits. Ian Umpierre also had six helpers. Hardy and Solomon both had two blocks.
Following the game, the All-Conference team for The English Family Classic was announced.

With the win, the Seahawks improve to 6-0 overall on the season. Northwood's next game is at home on Thursday, December 18 against Taylor University in the Maryetta Rappaport Family Classic. Edward Waters takes on Cornerstone in the first game at 5:00 with the Seahawks playing at 7:00 p.m.
