WEST PALM BEACH, FLA--The Northwood University women's basketball team had a strong first half, but were unable to carry over their play in the second half as they fell 77-55 to host Claflin University in Orangeburg, S.C. at Tullis Arena on Saturday afternoon.
The Seahawks(0-3) had a 33-32 lead at halftime, but were outscored 45-22 in the second half.Â
"We play well for only one half and can't find the full consistency for a full 40 minutes yet," Seahawks head coach Courtney McDaniel said. "When we work everything out, we will be a pretty good basketball team."
Northwood took control early in the second half and had a 43-37 advantage with 15:31 left. Claflin University(2-0) responded and would take a 49-48 lead with 11:48 remaining. Â Claflin then took the game over as they went on an 18-0 run after the Seahawks struggled offensively and in the halfcourt.
Atavia Blake had a team-high 13 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Seahawks. Stephanie Granada added 11 points, seven assists, and six rebounds. Lakeisha Blanson scored nine points and Emily May chipped in with eight points.Â
The Seahawks shot 31.7 percent from the field while Claflin shot 50 percent for the contest with 28 points inside the paint. Claflin had 53 rebounds while the Seahwks registered 34.
"We had a great effort and once the gelling comes along, Â we can do great things with this team," Granada said.Â
Northwood will visit The College of Coastal Georgia on Tuesday, November 25 at 5:30 p.m.Â
